Freedom Sunday Are You Really Free?   Psalm 33:10

On July 4, 1776, The Declaration of Independence was unanimously ratified by the second continental congress.

In signing it, they knowingly committed an act of high treason against the British Crown - An offense punishable by torture and death. 

The theme of Psalm 33 is the sovereignty of The Lord in creation and history. Psalm 33:10-12

Jesus Christ has done more for freedom in our nation, our world, and universe than any other human who has walked or will walk this earth!

1. We are built on a firm foundation of freedom . . . Psalm 22:27-28
   1. 105 colonists and seamen from England . . .They settled in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607 . . . They carried The Geneva Bible with them.
   2. 47 years after the first edition and printing of The Geneva Bible . . . English Christians took its message to heart.
   3. Rev. Robert Hunt offered the following prophetic proclamation on April 29, 1607 at Cape Henry (now Virginia Beach, Virginia).  In 1607 Robert Hunt of England planted a cross on the beach of Cape Henry on the Chesapeake Bay.  "We do hereby dedicate this land and ourselves to reach the people within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to raise up Godly generations after us and with these generations of God to all the earth. May this covenant of dedication remain to all generations as long as the earth remains.  And may this land along with England be evangelists to the world. May all who see this cross remember what we have done here and may those who have come here to inhabit join us in this covenant. From these very shores the Gospel shall go forth not only to this world but the entire world."
2. The second outstanding historical group would be . . . The signers of the Mayflower Compact.
   1. The Mayflower Compact was signed aboard ship on November 21, 1620.  Signing the covenant were 41 of the ship's 101 passengers.
   2. The Mayflower Compact states that they undertook the voyage "For the Glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith."
   3. We face similar obstacles in an ever-growing and ineffective civil government torn apart by two political parties . . .
      1. At War with the Constitution
      2. At War with a diverse false church
      3. An external enemy in Islam. . . Daniel 2:20-22
3. We have freedom . . . In The Word . . . Galatians 5:13
   1. The Truth is . .  . as Christ Followers . . .It is easy to fall into the trap of sin . . .When we focus on ourselves . . .
   2. We are called to be free!  Are you serving Christ by serving others?  True Service . . . Involves serving like Jesus served . . . Selfless!
   3. The word has the power to divide soul and spirit . . . Hebrews 4:12-13, Ephesians 5:25-27
